Filling Jars

When God wants to do a miracle, he often asks us to do something ordinary.

John 2:6-8 – 6Standing nearby were six stone water jars, used for Jewish ceremonial washing. Each could hold twenty to thirty gallons.7Jesus told the servants,“Fill the jars with water.” When the jars had been filled,8he said,“Now dip some out, and take it to the master of ceremonies.” So the servants followed his instructions.(NLT)

Jesus said, “Fill the jars.” So what did they do? They filled them! It was a lot of work. Before God does something great in your life, he will often ask you to do something ordinary. Why? I think he does it to test our hearts… to see if we’re willing to trust him.

Jesus asked the servants to do something ordinary… then the miracle happened! They didn’t know what was going to happen. They simply followed Jesus’ command and did what they were asked to do… and Jesus transformed the water they carried into something of great value.

Here’s the big question: What is God asking you to do?

Let’s be the kind of people… who participate in God’s work by serving and doing whatever He asks.

Jesus said, “If you give even a cup of cold water to one of the least of my followers, you will surely be rewarded” (Matthew 10:42 NLT).

Questions to Consider
What people, places or problems seem to get your attention on a regular basis?
What ordinary thing is God asking you to do that could open the door for him to do something great?

Talking to God
Ask the Lord to clearly reveal to you what he wants you to do. And ask him to strengthen your faith and help you to overcome anything (fear, unbelief, sin) that might be holding you back from doing what he asks.

Remember… God loves to use ordinary people to accomplish great things!
